Covid-19 Getting back to work safely
As Australia looks forward to getting back to work, there are some vital steps necessary to do so safely.
Under WHS legislation, employers have a duty of care to ensure their work environment does not put workers and others at risk of contracting COVID-19.
These guidelines include:
*Having a process in place for cleaning the workplace regularly and thoroughly.
*Restructuring the layout of the workplace to allow for physical distancing, and
*Limiting the number of people in the workplace at any given time.
*Requiring staff to practice physical distancing, including through contactless deliveries and payments where possible
*Requiring everyone to practice good hygiene, and
*Requiring others to stay away from the workplace, unless essential, e.g., such as family, friends and visitors.
*Requiring workers to stay home when sick
Employers also must provide adequate facilities in the workplace to protect workers from contracting COVID-19. These are critical and include:
